Respite & Day Care

At Abbeywood House we are pleased to be able to offer exceptional respite care for those that need short-term support.

Respite care offers a break from the day-to-day care routine, with a change of scenery, the opportunity for socialisation and new experiences, while providing a seamless continuity of care.

Short term respite care is also a great opportunity to trial what life in a care home is like, and is often the first step towards moving into permanent residency in a care home.

Why Is Respite Care So Important?

For Carers

Caring for an elderly parent or loved one at home can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be physically and mentally exhausting. At times, caregivers need a short-term break to recharge and take a well-deserved rest from their daily responsibilities. Taking a short break can help you:

  • Rest and Recuperate

  • Manage Your Own Life Commitments

  • Prevent Social Isolation: Balancing caregiving and family duties can be overwhelming and isolating. A short break gives you the opportunity to reconnect with friends and other family members, reducing feelings of burnout and resentment.

For Those Receiving Respite Care:
If you're the individual receiving the support, a respite care break could be hugely beneficial for you too. A short break can offer you:
  • A change of scenery

  • A chance to socialise with like-minded people – It provides an opportunity to make new friends.

  • A chance to refresh – it’s easy to feel uncomfortable or like a burden when you’re reliant on a family member or loved one for support. Meeting new people can help to alleviate these feelings and make you feel good.

  • An experience of care home life – here, at Abbeywood House, many of our respite care residents have gone on to live with us permanently. A short-term stay gives the perfect taster of life within our care home.

What does respite care include?

If you are considering a short-term care home stay, you can expect to receive the same care and support as our permanent residents.

We will carefully assess your needs and create a detailed care plan, allowing our team to provide tailored, personal care, which can include support such as dressing, bathing, and help with administering medication.

You will have your own beautifully furnished bedroom, often with an en-suite bathroom. Our devoted staff will support you in every way, helping you to settle in and enjoy the companionship of others, take part in engaging activities, enjoy delicious home-cooked food, and even launder your clothes.

Transitioning From Respite Care To Full-Time Care

Transitioning into full-time care is streamlined for those who find comfort in our respite care service. Staff familiarity with residents’ needs and preferences aids this process. Most residents with first-hand experience of life in a care home, find the decision to move into full-time care smooth and seamless.
