Our team of dementia specialists offer round-the-clock, personalised care and support for those who can no longer live independently. This includes progressive brain conditions that affect memory and thinking skills, such as Alzheimer’s diseaseLewy body or vascular dementia and age-related memory loss.

Our philosophy at Abbeywood House is to provide dementia care and support to help your loved ones live fulfilling, happy and active lives.

As a dementia specialist care home, we are regulated by the Care Quality Commission and our carers are specially trained to provide safe and effective dementia support. We understand that choosing the right care home for your loved one can be one of life’s biggest decisions – and we are here to help you.

What is Dementia Care?

People with dementia are likely to experience memory loss and find it difficult to make sense of their surroundings. We know these symptoms can cause distress, especially as the individual progresses over time and nursing or residential care is not enough.

Dementia care accommodates their sometimes complex needs with a focus on living in familiar surroundings.  Every aspect of our home is designed to be dementia friendly which enables our residents to live a fulfilling life doing the activities they love.

Abbeywood House is a dedicated dementia friendly care home where our team strives to offer the most up to date best practice.

Enriching Lives

Our team of trained carers pride themselves on enriching our residents’ lives, delivering dementia care with compassion and dignity.

Many of our residents may have previously been cared for at home by a loved one, who may well have been the one to spot those early symptoms of dementia. We understand how hard it can be to support someone through their dementia journey alone, before they move into a care home. Our team are here to not only provide excellent care and enrich our residents’ lives, but to help their relatives when it comes to understanding dementia.

At Abbeywood House we encourage and support our residents’ families to be part of their dementia journey. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit and we support and encourage them to be part of life in our care home.

Why is dementia care so important?

Caring for someone with dementia by yourself can be a struggle. As the condition develops over time, the need for specialist dementia care increases. So too does the support needed by affected family members.

Residential dementia care not only ensures that your loved one is looked after and safe, but it makes a positive difference to their quality of life and gives you peace of mind. It is also vital to provide the relevant levels of engagement and for this reason we offer a wide range of activities in our home to ensure these needs are met for every resident.

Understanding Dementia

Understanding dementia and the different types can be difficult but at Abbeywood House our dedicated management team will help you understand more and support you in navigating this journey.

We want you to know that there is a realistic vision within your reach, of life in a care home with a positive, forward-looking team, who appreciate the challenges ahead and approach it with energy, conviction and creativity.
